Wax Removal
Microsuction is regarded as the safest and quickest method to successfully remove earwax and debris from the ear canal.
Using our services, you can be assured that this procedure is carried out by a qualified and experienced Audiologist with additional training in aural microsuction.
Excessive earwax.
A build-up of earwax in the ear canal can cause hearing loss and discomfort, contributes to infections, and can exacerbate stress, social isolation and depression. Moreover, earwax can prevent adequate clinical examination of the ear, delaying investigations and management; audiologists cannot check for infection or test hearing and fit hearing aids if the ear canal is blocked with wax. Excessive earwax is common, especially in older adults and those who use hearing aids.
Earwax removal.
Microsuction earwax removal is undertaken using a medical suction unit and a loupe to allow the Audiologist to see clearly what he/she is doing. A thin suction is attached to the suction machine that can be comfortably place inside the ear canal.
Some methods of wax removal, like irrigation, require the wax to be softened using drops before the procedure. With microsuction, it is best to avoid putting any drops in your ear before your appointment. Depending on the texture of the wax, using drops (or using the wrong type of drops) can make the procedure more difficult. Your clinician may use some drops after examining the ear and determining which type of drop will be most appropriate.
